It is mostly concerned with how to convert traditional transportation operations into a sustainable transportation system by showing the state-of-the-art regarding sustainable transportation performance indexes. In this study, a definition of sustainable transportation and major performance indexes are given for use in the decision-making processes. Recent theoretical developments and studies using such performance indexes are investigated and used to provide the conceptual basis of the sustainability in transportation activities. Also, an example of a mixed integer linear programming model is shared to be used in solving the multiobjective sustainable transportation problems via different solution methodologies.Chemical engineeringComputer scienceTransport and logistics models for sustainabilityBook Chapterhttps://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84940369496&doi=10.1016%2fB978-0-444-63472-6.00016-1&partnerID=40&md5=1dc9e311885a096291d4abd0feae19856882
