Abstract

The chapter is on the formation of nanostructured materials by arrested growth techniques in supercritical fluids (SCFs). The conventional processes for formation of nanostructured materials in aqueous and organic solvents are briefly described. The advantages of carrying out the technique in the presence of a SCF are discussed. The studies in the literature are summarized. Studies on formation of a wide variety of nanoparticles including Au, Pti Ag as well as Ge nanowires are described. The theoretical aspect of arrested growth is discussed in light of the thermodynamic and molecular simulation investigations in the literature.
