| dc.description.abstract | Abstract: Magnetic microparticles emerge as a promising tool for targeted transport and control in biological systems. In this study, we investigate the control and functionality of 100 micrometer Nickel-Gold coated particles under the influence of magnetic fields, focusing on central nervous system (CNS) applications. With their dual-material structure, these particles provide precise orientation control when exposed to magnetic fields, making them suitable candidates for CNS-focused interventions. An extensive experimental setup has been designed to verify the effectiveness of these particles. First, computer simulations demonstrate the motion and control dynamics of these structures in a virtual CNS environment. Then, controlled tests on particle orientation and behavior were performed using simplified inanimate plastic mold models mimicking complex neural pathways. Finally, in-vivo tests on an animal model investigated the feasibility of magnetic particle manipulation within the CNS. Preliminary results show that the particles respond effectively to magnetic fields and provide high precision in both movement and targeting. In-vivo studies have demonstrated successful control of particles with different velocities and sensitivities in CNS structures. These results emphasize the potential for use in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases or targeted drug delivery applications within the CNS in the coming years. With the advancement of the technologies used, it may be possible to perform human experiments in the future, which may lead to new approaches in minimally invasive neurological treatments and personalized medicine. Although initial findings are promising, further research is needed to evaluate the long-term biocompatibility, safety and functionality of magnetic micro-roller systems in living CNS tissues. In addition, future studies on optimizing the control mechanisms of this technology and its scalability to clinical applications are planned. It is anticipated that magnetically controlled microparticle systems will become more applicable and useful in medicine as research and development moves forward. | |
