Draw a Person Test Results Comparison between Generations and Gender: 33 Years Later

Abstract

This study aims to observe the changes in Draw a Person Test performance over a long time period (33 years) with regard to socio-economic development and gender. The Draw a Person Test results obtained from fifth graders who live in Bursa and its villages were compared with the data collected from the same region 33 years earlier. This comparison, pointed to a general increase in the test performance. This increase was found to be greater in low socioeconomic status compared to high socio-ecnomic status. Additionally, the relationship between socio-economic status and test performance was found to be still valid (Kağıtçıbaşı ve Biricik, 2011). Another result obtained from the study is that girls performed better than boys. This difference is significant especially in low socio-economic status. In this article performance changes reflected on test scores and gender differences are explained from a time perspective. / Bu araştırma Bir İnsan Çiz Testi’ndeki performansın uzun bir zaman dilimi (otuz üç yıl) içerisindeki değişimini hem sosyo-ekonomik gelişme bağlamında, hem de toplumsal cinsiyet açısından anlamayı amaçlamaktadır. 1977 yılında Bursa ve civar köylerinde okuyan ilköğretim beşinci sınıf öğrencilerinden elde edilen Bir İnsan Çiz Testi sonuçları (Kağıtçıbaşı, 1979) otuz üç yıl sonra aynı yöreden toplanan verilerle karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu karşılaştırma sonucunda yıllar içerisinde test performansında genel bir artış saptanmıştır. Bu kazanımın, düşük sosyo-ekonomik düzeyde, orta-üst SED’e kıyasla çok daha fazla olduğu saptanmıştır. Bununla birlikte genel olarak sosyo-ekonomik düzey ile test performansı arasındaki önemli ilişkinin varlığı halen de geçerli olarak bulunmuştur (Kağıtçıbaşı ve Biricik, 2011). Araştırmadan elde edilen diğer bir sonuç ise kız öğrencilerin test performanslarının erkek öğrencilere kıyasla yüksek olduğudur. Bu fark özellikle düşük SED ortamında önemli derecededir. Bu makalede test sonuçlarına yansıyan performansın SED ve cinsiyetler arasında gösterdiği farklılıklar zaman perspektifinden açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır.
