Abstract

This chapter focuses on the use of inorganic aerogels in white goods for thermal insulation applications. The synthesis of aerogels from different precursors and the production methods of different forms of aerogels were summarized. A detailed explanation of the heat transfer mechanisms in aerogels are given. Previous studies for thermal insulation in refrigerators and ovens were introduced. Furthermore, the chapter presents a brief discussion of possible new approaches for thermal insulation in white goods.
