dc.description.abstractAim Invasive urodynamic studies are an important diagnostic tool for assessing lower urinary tract function, requiring precise setup and calibration of equipment to ensure accurate results. This document provides standardized guidance for preparing to perform a urodynamic study. Methods This teaching module was developed by a working group of the Urodynamics Committee of the International Continence Society (ICS) as a clinical practice tool. The guidance is based on evidence, existing ICS Guidelines and Standards, expert consensus of the working group, and urodynamics equipment manufacturers’ instructions, to make recommendations for setting up the equipment for a reliable study. The module has been reviewed by the ICS Urodynamics and Standardization Steering Committees and is complemented by educational material on the ICS website. Results Recommendations were summarised in the form of a checklist for required materials, preparation of the urodynamics room, setting up the machine and the transducers, including zeroing and reference level. Additional information was included with regard to specialized tests (surface electromyography, video-urodynamics, and urethral pressure profile), air-filled systems and paediatric patients. Conclusions This teaching module provides important recommendations regarding the preparation and setup of equipment, which the working group considers crucial for performing high quality invasive urodynamic studies. It aims to compliment other ICS guidelines on urodynamics to ensure efficient and accurate urodynamic practice. © 2026 The Authors.
