dc.description.abstract | Silicon microspheres are transparent in the near-infrared telecommunication bands and can be used for electrophotonic integration. We have experimentally observed blue shifts in resonance wavelengths of an electrically driven silicon microsphere of 500 μm in radius, in the near-infrared. We have used a distributed feed back (DFB) laser operating at 1475 nm, and applied electrical potential differences up to 9 V to the silicon microsphere. We have observed blue shifts in the resonance wavelengths up to 0.05 nm, which corresponds to a change in the refractive index of 10−4. | |
