The crime of extortion in the Turkish Penal Code, law no. 5237
Abstract
The crime of extortion is prescribed in Turkish Penal Code no. 5237 under the chapter on crimes against persons. The provision portrays the crime as the qualifed version of coercion, where the offender aims to gain a benefit. However, it is defined as an independent crime. In this work, firstly the differences between extortion and other crimes will be examined and subsequently the elements of extortion will be discussed in detail.
