Abstract
This chapter includes a brief discussion of the utilization of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in smart homes (SHs). Existing scenarios, related automation solutions, and available applications of SHs are summarized. Wired and wireless communication protocols performed are discussed in a comparative way, and a detailed classification of network types, topologies and requirements, node architectures, and routing pro tocols is also provided. The chapter ends with the analysis of security and privacy considerations, emerging technologies, research challenges, and future directions of WSNs-enabled SH applications
