dc.description.abstractBackground: Bibliometricanalysishighlights thekey topicsandpublicationswhichhaveshapedthe understandingandmanagementofGastriccancer.Herethe100mostcitedmanuscriptsinthefieldof gastriccancer(GC)areanalysed. Methods: TheThomsonReutersWebofSciencedatabasewiththesearchterms'gastriccancer’or‘gastric carcinoma’or ‘stomachcancer’or ‘stomachcarcinoma’or ‘gastroscopy’wasusedtoidentifyallEnglish language fullmanuscripts for thestudy. The100most citedpaperswere furtheranalysedbytopic, journal,author,yearandinstitution. Results: 122,616eligiblepaperswerereturnedandthemedian(range)citationnumberwas417(2893 e299).Themostcitedpaper(byParsonnet)focusedonH.Pyloririskandgastriccancer(2893citations). CancerResearchpublishedthehighestnumberofpapers(n¼13,6901citations)andTheNewEngland JournalofMedicine(NEJM)hadthemostcitations(n¼8,9358citations).Thecountryandyearwiththe greatestnumberofpublicationsweretheUSA(n¼29),and1998(n¼10).Themostubiquitoustopicwas thepathologyofgastriccancer(n¼57)followedbyaetiologyofgastriccancer(n¼47),andbasicscience ofgastriccancer(n¼44). Conclusion: Themost citedmanuscriptshighlightedinthisstudydescribethesciencerelatedtothe pathogenesisofGC including surgeryandregimens thathave resulted inthecontemporaryunderstandingandtreatmentofGC. Thisworkprovides themost influential references relatedtoGCand servesasaguideastowhatmakesacitablepaper.
