Abstract

Nitride-based materials are the second most abundant binary materials after oxide materials. However, nitrides have more fascinating features and unexpected optical, electrical, mechanical, and even catalytic properties than oxides. In this chapter, we have reviewed and discussed the general properties, catalytic activities, and synthetic methods of some representative nitrides that have been utilized as catalysts in solvent-free organic reactions. Furthermore, we have elucidated the solvent-free and modification techniques of nitrides and their crystal structures, which play a key role in analyzing the materials' surface chemistry and stability. © 2023 WILEY-VCH GmbH.
