Drawing on the case study of a scholarship programme within an elite university in Lebanon, through in-depth interviews with students and university faculty and staff, this article elaborates on the typologies in responses that emerged as students position themselves in a new environment. These typologies, in contrast to the literature which presents them as a result of alterations in the habitus, appear to be related to each other and occur simultaneously within one person's trajectory. As such, instead of viewing these responses as degrees of incorporation of each set of schemes of perceptions from both fields, the context of origin and the new social context appear to be multi-faceted, and the interaction between them is complex. I argue, along the lines of Lahire's dispositional perspective, that the situation of contradictory experiences is not exceptional but characterizes all individuals to a certain extent, especially in the Lebanese context which is distinguished by its diversity in terms of regional and religious affiliations and in which class intersects with other types of identifications.Publication Metadata only Response to microsurgical anatomy of lumbosacral spinal roots(Springer, 2015) Çavdar, Safiye; Faculty Member; School of Medicine; 1995Publication Metadata only Asymmetric response to monetary policy surprises at the long-end of the yield curve(Louisiana State University Press, 2012) Department of Economics; Department of Economics; Demiralp, Selva; Yılmaz, Kamil; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; Department of Economics; College of Administrative Sciences and Economics; College of Administrative Sciences and Economics; 42533; 6111This paper investigates the responsiveness of asset markets to monetary policy path revisions. Using federal funds futures contracts to extract near-term path revisions, we find that the responsiveness of longer term Treasury securities to path revisions is significantly asymmetric, the magnitude of which increases during tightenings and decreases during easings. These findings blend nicely with the earlier literature that documents asymmetric effects of monetary policy on output. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. Experimental research is vital to improve flap viability. However, the number of flap models for animals is still limited. In this study, we define a new adipofascial flap in rats that can be used to investigate pedicled flap and/or adipofascial flap physiology.Methods: Eight Wistar male rats were used. Under deep anesthesia, paraepididymal adipofascial flaps were harvested. Flap perfusion was assessed using a near-infrared fluorescence imaging system. The length of the flap and the diameter of the flap pedicle were measured.Results: All animals (n = 8) had sufficient sizes of paraepididymal fat pad, and no animals were lost. The only postoperative complication was testicular hematoma, which was observed in 2 animals. The maximum length of the harvested paraepididymal adipofascial flap was 9.7 cm with a mean of 6.6 cm. The maximum width of the flap was 3.3 cm with a mean of 2.6 cm. The mean pedicle diameter of the paraepididymal adipofascial flap was 1.1 mm. Near-infrared fluorescence imaging revealed adequate perfusion in all flaps.Conclusions: The number of reported adipofascial flap models in animals is low, and they are mostly limited to flaps based on epigastric vessels. Superior epididymal artery-based paraepididymal adipofascial flap can be used as a pedicled flap model for studies focusing on adipofascial and/or pedicled flap physiology. Additive manufacturing allows the creation of customized, finely detailed constructs. Improvements in 3D printing, increased 3D printer availability, decreasing costs, development of biomaterials, and improved cell culture techniques have enabled complex, novel, and customized medical applications to develop. There have been rapid development and utilization of 3D printing technologies in orthopedics, dentistry, urology, reconstructive surgery, and other health care areas. Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) is an emerging application field for 3D printing. This technology can be utilized in OBGYN for preventive medicine, early diagnosis, and timely treatment of women-and-fetus-specific health issues. Moreover, 3D printed simulations of surgical procedures enable the training of physicians according to the needs of any given procedure. Herein, we summarize the technology and materials behind additive manufacturing and review the most recent advancements in the application of 3D printing in OBGYN studies, such as diagnosis, surgical planning, training, simulation, and customized prosthesis. Exploiting, the cancellation of such sums, we deduce upper bounds for the discrepancy of fractions in the unit interval [0, 1] whose denominators satisfy the same restrictions. The Think Tank (TT) discussed how to improve the management of DV in these two different age groups and in transitional care. Methods: During the 2018 International Consultation on Incontinence Research Society held in Bristol, a multidisciplinary TT on DV was created. The presentations and subsequent discussion, leading to research recommendations intended to improve the management of DV in children and adults are summarized. Results: To improve the management of DV in children and adults, the TT panel proposed: (1) to conduct reliable prevalence studies of DV; (2) to perform longitudinal studies to prospectively test the sequence hypothesis by answering the following questions: (a) Which, if any children show a progression from overactive bladder or voiding postponement to DV?; (b) Which children develop each disorder without precursors?; and (c) Is there a continuation of DV from childhood to adulthood, or are adult cases new-onset presentations?; (3) to obtain detailed information regarding psychopathology to understand which comorbid psychological disorders prevail and at which rate, in those suffering DV; (4) to develop and validate diagnostic tools specifically for DV; (5) to better establish urodynamic correlates of DV specific for different age groups; and (6) to generate prospective long-term data regarding the efficacy of different treatment options and management strategies. Among them organic-inorganic hybrid nanoflowers have been spotlighted, since they can overcome enzyme-related limitations, including low stability, high production cost, substrate/product inhibition and difficult recovery. In this study, triple enzyme-inorganic hybrid nanoflowers (TrpE@ihNFs) were synthesized using a mixture of three enzymes (alpha-amylase, lipase and protease) and Cu2+ ions. TrpE@ihNFs were characterized by their morphology and chemical point of view by using different techniques including SEM, FTIR, EDX, and XRD. Afterwards we compared the enzyme activity and stability of TrpE@ihNFs with the free enzymes, including lipase, amylase and protease at the different pH and temperatures spectrophotometrically. Our data reveal that enzyme activities and stability of TrpE@ihNFs were significantly higher compared to the each free enzyme. In conclusion, we showed TrpE@ihNFs which can be used for the treatment of wastewater, biosensors, biocatalysts, and bio-related devices in the future.Publication Metadata only The fantasy of do what you love and ludic authoritarianism in the videogame industry(Sage, 2023) Department of Media and Visual Arts; Bulut, Ergin; Faculty Member; Department of Media and Visual Arts; College of Social Sciences and Humanities; 219279Like other creative workers, videogame developers believe doing what you love (DWYL) brings success and happiness. Drawing on three years of ethnography in a U.S. based studio, I theorize DWYL as a social fantasy, which glues developers to work despite cruelties. Because developers' attachment to work is not an individual matter of the heart but a powerful relation that is mutually cultivated, desired, and even joyfully dictated, I conceptualize these cruelties through "ludic authoritarianism", redefined as a diffuse form of workplace regime. In this regime, both the management and developers invest in the DWYL fantasy that normalizes overwork, creates success mythologies, institutes vague performance metrics, and cultivates discriminatory production cultures. Moving beyond "love at work brings exploitation" narratives, I show how authoritarianism is not a deviant political form in non-Western contexts but a diffuse and playful culture across elite workplaces in the Global North.
