Publication Open Access How HCI bridges health and design in online health communities: a systematic review(Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), 2021) Department of Media and Visual Arts; N/A; Gatos, Doğa Çorlu; Günay, Aslı; Kırlangıç, Güncel; Kuşçu, Kemal; Yantaç, Asım Evren; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; Department of Media and Visual Arts; KU Arçelik Research Center for Creative Industries (KUAR) / KU Arçelik Yaratıcı Endüstriler Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (KUAR); College of Social Sciences and Humanities; Graduate School of Social Sciences and Humanities; School of Medicine; N/A; 150162; N/A; N/A; 52621This paper presents a systematic review of online health communities (OHCs) published between 2009 and 2020 in the ACM Digital Library. Aiming to consolidate the current issues, design knowledge, challenges, and tensions in OHCs, our analysis identified four high-level aspects related to the use and design of OHCs: (1) temporal: OHCs as transition spaces, (2) spatial: bridging experiential knowledge with medical expertise, (3) technological: exchanging and locating peer support, and (4) tension dimensions in OHCs. We further discuss methodological improvements and computing opportunities for OHC research and how to increase OHC members’ agency in such a medically dominated context. These findings have the potential to inform future OHC designs and help researchers and designers position future contributions.Publication Open Access Imagining emerging technologies for promoting intercultural meaningful social interactions: a participatory futures approach(Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), 2022) Serdar, Büşra; N/A; Department of Media and Visual Arts; Department of Sociology; Ramirez Galleguillos, María Laura; Eloiriachi, Aya; Coşkun, Aykut; Faculty Member; Department of Media and Visual Arts; Department of Sociology; Graduate School of Sciences and Engineering; College of Social Sciences and Humanities; N/A; N/A; 165306Intercultural Meaningful Social Interactions (IMSI) are positive and impactful interactions held between intercultural strangers. Previously, studies have explored these interactions characterizing them, identifying factors that influence them, and tactics and strategies to promote them. Still, what kind of technologies could encourage IMSI is underexplored. Hence, we took a participatory futures approach to understand participants' imaginaries and perceptions of potential technologies to promote IMSI. We conducted participatory futures workshops with locals and migrants living in Istanbul, an exemplary multicultural city between the east and west, who envisioned and discussed 15 concepts of emerging technologies that would enable IMSI in Istanbul of 2050. By analyzing this work, our contribution is first to present six visions of alternative futures of IMSI and, second, to introduce the tools and implications of the methodology followed to enable participants' futures thinking of IMSI in an intercultural context.Publication Open Access Dreaming of immersive interactions to navigate forced distributed collaboration during Covid-19(Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), 2020) Department of Media and Visual Arts; N/A; Bakırlıoğlu, Yekta; Coşkun, Aykut; Ramirez Galleguillos, María Laura; Researcher; Faculty Member; Department of Media and Visual Arts; College of Social Sciences and Humanities; Graduate School of Social Sciences and Humanities; 164439; 165306; N/ANA
