Varying and changing translations of 'birth control' in Japan(Routledge Journals, Taylor and Francis Ltd, 2021) Department of Sociology; Department of Sociology; Demirci, Aiko Takeuchi; Faculty Member; College of Social Sciences and Humanities; 310431This article examines how the Japanese conceptualized 'birth control' in the twentieth century by analyzing the various terms its supporters used to describe contraception. The Japanese translations reveal the core ideas that defined the Japanese birth control movement, specifically eugenics and Neo-Malthusianism, during the tumultuous decades surrounding World War II as Japan competed for hegemony in the Pacific. The use of different terms over the decades reveals the struggles among Japanese leaders and intellectuals to 'control' the reproductive fate of the Japanese race.Publication Metadata only Sexuality and the Japanese empire: a contested history(Routledge, 2021) Department of Sociology; Department of Sociology; Demirci, Aiko Takeuchi; Faculty Member; College of Social Sciences and Humanities; 310431N/APublication Metadata only Introduction: Covid-19 and transnational American studies(2020) Department of Sociology; Department of Sociology; Demirci, Aiko Takeuchi; Faculty Member; College of Social Sciences and Humanities; 310431N/APublication Open Access From radiation effects to consanguineous marriages: American geneticists and colonial science in the atomic age(University of California Digital Library, 2022) Department of Sociology; Department of Sociology; Demirci, Aiko Takeuchi; Faculty Member; Center for Asian Studies (KUASIA) / Koç Üniversitesi Asya Çalışmaları Uygulama Ve Araştırma Merkezi (KUASIA); College of Social Sciences and Humanities; 310431NA
