The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between mothers' childhood traumatic experiences and parenting styles. This descriptive study was conducted with 355 participants in Turkey. Data were collected using the Participant Information Form, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire between September and December 2019. Descriptive statistics, Student t-test, one-way ANOVA and correlation analysis were performed. Parenting styles did not change according to the socio-demographic characteristics of the mothers. It was found that as the childhood traumatic experiences increased, their authoritarian and permissive styles increased while their authoritative styles decreased. It would be helpful to explore parents' experiences of childhood trauma and then provide support accordingly and appropriately.

Suggestions for increasing awareness of nurses by using Pender’s health promotion model and Slavin’s effective teaching model in the covid-19 pandemic process
(Koç University School of Nursing, 2022) Madran, Bahar; N/A; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; Faculty Member; Semahat Arsel Nursing Education, Practice and Research Center / Semahat Arsel Hemşirelik Eğitim, Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (SANERC); School of Nursing; 1729
COVID-19 is a new kind of causing respiratory tract disease that affects the lives of over 280 million people worldwide. Even though conditions dramatically impact people with chronic diseases and older ones, it is assumed that 90% of the cases might be avoided thanks to the appropriate use of personal equipment. Nurses are the riskiest group in the contagion and spread of the disease. Increasing nurses’ awareness during the pandemic plays a crucial role in protecting themselves and preventing the spread of the disease in the community. This paper aims to increase the level of awareness of nurses providing care to COVID-19 patients using Pender’s Health Promotion Model and Slavin’s Effective Teaching Model. Therefore, it was considered that by increasing their awareness, the process of changing their behaviors would be accelerated and permanent.

Response to a letter to the editor regarding "connectors as a risk factor for blood-associated infections (3-way stopcock and needleless connector): a randomized-experimental study"
(Mosby-Elsevier, 2020) Guven, Betul; Ocakci; Kaya, Nurten; N/A; Şengül, Tuba; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; School of Nursing; School of Nursing; 59230; 1729
In our study, “Results of this study found no significant difference between rates of colonization in NCs and TWSs,” this sentence was perceived as a contradiction. This contradiction was explained in the letter by Devrim. In our study, as indicated by Devrim, there was a difference in the rate of colonization in needleless connectors (NC) and 3-way stopcock (TWS) attached to peripheral venous catheters, but no statistically significant difference was found in the rate of colonization in central and port catheters. This is stated in the abstract section with the following sentence: “When the results of colonization for patients using TWS and NC were compared, the peripheral venous catheters (using a TWS) resulted in a significantly higher increase in reproduction than patients using NC (P ≤ .01) and no significant difference in the level of colonization in other types of connectors or catheters (P ˃ .05).” The results section is associated with the other data obtained; it has been emphasized that connectors attached to intravenous (IV) catheters are a risk factor for catheter-related bloodstream infections. In addition, it is necessary for a scientific research to reach a general conclusion by discussing the findings with other literature. Indeed, studies comparing the effect of periferal intravenous catheter- integrated NC and TWS on the causing of infection are very limited, and available studies2,3 state that there is no difference between the 2 types of connectors. In addition, the number of injections, duration of use of the device, and microbial contamination rate were not confounders in both studies. In our study, the procedure for obtaining the culture from the connectors was carried out with attention, and this was stated in the study. Standard maintenance of catheters and connectors are summarized in Table 1. This table could not be shown in the study due to the publication standards of the Journal, but the process was summarized. In addition, clinical examinations of the patients were made in terms of signs of infection and body temperature measurements, and laboratory findings (C-reactive protein and blood leukocyte levels) were evaluated.

Type 1 diabetes management: example of a nursing model
(Koç Üniversitesi HYO Semahat Arsel Hemşirelik Eğitim ve Araştırma Merkezi (SANERC), 2013) Çövener, Çağrı; N/A; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; Faculty Member; School of Nursing; 1729
An increase in the incidence of Type 1 diabetes in the world and a decrease in the age of onset does not mean a lower quality of life for diabetic adolescents and children when well-managed. Nurses providing diabetes education have important responsibilities in realizing this. Although there are education programs in diabetes centers by specialist nurses in Turkey, no standardized education has been established. The quality of nursing care increases by providing solutionfocused approaches when theories and models are implemented to systematize nursing practices and give direction to nursing research. Standardizing education in nursing care improves the quality of care and professionalism. In this article, an example is given in order to illustrate the diabetes education standards for adolescents/children with Type 1 diabetes by using Type 1 Diabetes Management Model based on the Health Promotion Model and Mastery Learning Theory. It is believed that this example may be adapted for the management of different chronic diseases.

The effect of stress management training program on stress coping styles among the adolescents in prison in Turkey
(Wiley, 2017) Öztürk, Ozlem; N/A; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; Faculty Member; School of Nursing; 1729
This study was performed to determine the effects of a stress management training program that was administered to adolescents in prison. This was a semi-experimental study that used pretests and posttests in controlled groups; it was performed between June 2012 and March 2013 in a closed prison for children and adolescents. The study was completed with the participation of 73 adolescents (36 in the experimental group and 37 in the control group). Adolescent Lifestyle Profile scale and the Stress Coping Styles Scale were used as the data collection tools. The Stress Management Training Program was developed by the researchers and carried out for 2weeks, a total of 10 sessions of 40min each. The scales were administered before the program was implemented, immediately after the program and 1month following the program. Although there were no statistically significant differences between the mean Stress Coping Styles Scale scores of the experimental and control groups before the intervention (p>0.05), a statistically significant difference was found after the intervention and at re-test (p<0.05). This study has shown that this training program could be implemented with adolescents in prison, and the program was effective in providing positive behavioural changes in stress management.

Vaccine-hesitant parents’ reasons for choosing alternative protection methods in Turkey
(Sage Publications Ltd, 2021) Sumengen, Aylin Akca; N/A; Özçevik Subaşı, Damla; Kurşun, Hülya Yaren; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; PhD Student; Master Student; Faculty Member; Graduate School of Health Sciences; Graduate School of Health Sciences; School of Nursing; N/A; N/A; 1729
Background: Parents use alternative protective methods instead of having their children vaccinated because of their various concerns. Aims: The aim of this study is to examine the processes by which the parents preferred alternative methods rather than the vaccines to strengthen their child's immune system. Methods: Semi-structured, qualitative interviews were conducted with 22 parents who had vaccine hesitancy. The study sample consisted of parents whose children were between the ages of 0 and 18 years and who experienced vaccine hesitancy and lived in Turkey. The interviews with individuals were conducted online and aimed to be representative of the population of Turkey. Results: The factors that caused parental vaccine hesitancy were various, such as vaccine contents, distrust of healthcare workers and false information about vaccines. Because of these factors, parents resorted to natural nutrition, vitamin support and some other precautions, such as avoiding takeaway food or preparing homemade food, rather than having their children vaccinated. Conclusions: In recent years, it is thought that parents need education about vaccination; outbreaks may be caused by immigrant children who cannot be registered, and therefore cannot be vaccinated, in Turkey, which has received immigration at a high rate.

Improving oral and dental health behavior basing on health promotion model and theory of information processing in adolescent
(Giresun Üniversitesi, 2018) Top, Fadime Üstüner; N/A; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; Faculty Member; School of Nursing; 1729
This study is planned to establish nursing activities which are based on theory and model in order to develop oral and dental health behavior. Theories and models related to the subject are used in individual’s health behavior and identifying the factors of this behavior. In the preparation process of development program of oral and dental health, Pender’s Health Promotion Model (HPM) and Gagne’s Theory of Information Processing (TIP) are applied. In this study, adopting the Gagne’s theory of information processing is result from the point of learner’s individual qualifications and removing the motivation to the fore. The core point of Pender’s HPM is selfefficacy perception. Self-efficacy perception is the individual’s believing in himself while accomplishing the intended behavior successfully. Pender emphasizes that if motivation and responsibilities for the health behavior of the individual is increase, the behavior will develop. For the health promoting behavior, this theory and model complete each other. In this model, 16 sectioned activity book on promoting oral and dental health has been prepared. In the first stage, the factors that influence the behavior in order to provide recognizing individual’s own responsibility to improve oral health behavior should be determined. In the second stage, activities are applied according to the theory of information processing steps by considering the affecting factors to provide change in behavior. In our study nursing model has been developed to improve oral and dental health behavior based on HPM and TIP.
