Aims: The aim of this study is to examine the processes by which the parents preferred alternative methods rather than the vaccines to strengthen their child's immune system. Methods: Semi-structured, qualitative interviews were conducted with 22 parents who had vaccine hesitancy. The study sample consisted of parents whose children were between the ages of 0 and 18 years and who experienced vaccine hesitancy and lived in Turkey. The interviews with individuals were conducted online and aimed to be representative of the population of Turkey. Results: The factors that caused parental vaccine hesitancy were various, such as vaccine contents, distrust of healthcare workers and false information about vaccines. Because of these factors, parents resorted to natural nutrition, vitamin support and some other precautions, such as avoiding takeaway food or preparing homemade food, rather than having their children vaccinated. Conclusions: In recent years, it is thought that parents need education about vaccination; outbreaks may be caused by immigrant children who cannot be registered, and therefore cannot be vaccinated, in Turkey, which has received immigration at a high rate.Publication Metadata only The relation between quality of life and future expectations for refugee adolescents(Wiley, 2021) Ekim, Ayfer; N/A; Özçevik Subaşı, Damla; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; Beşer, Ayşe; Sümengen, Aylin Akça; PhD Student; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; PhD Student; Graduate School of Health Sciences; School of Nursing; School of Nursing; Graduate School of Health Sciences; N/A; 1729; 143490; 257066Problem: Refugee children and their families encounter various challenges in a new country. The purpose of this study was to identify abuse potential of mothers with Down syndrome children. Material and Methods: This study was conducted in a special education and rehabilitation centers for children with disabilities in İstanbul by using a cross-sectional design. In the process of data collection, two different types of forms were utilized: Participant Data Collection Form and Abuse Awareness Scale for Parents. The evaluation of data was handled through independent samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, Bonferoni-corrected Mann-Whitney U test and multiple regression analysis. Results: It was identified that the difference between education of mothers, number of children, type of the family, occupation, perceived socio-economic status, perceived social support level, considering to be abused in childhood of mothers and the mean score of Abuse Awareness Scale for Parents were statistically significant. Conclusion: The abuse potential of mothers of children with Down syndrome was found out as medium level. It was determined that 53.7% of the abuse potential of the mothers were explained by four independent variables (family type, working status, perceived social support level and considering to be abused in childhood). In order to reduce the levels of abuse and increase the awareness of mothers, it is recommended that nurses, who are trained on child abuse and neglect, first provide training to mothers with extended or fragmented family type, the unemployed, and low perceived social support. Publication Open Access Healthcare workers' anxieties and coping strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey(Wiley, 2021) Özçevik Subaşı, Damla; Sümengen, Aylin Akça; Şimşek, Enes; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; PhD Student; Faculty Member; Graduate School of Health Sciences; School of Nursing; N/A; N/A; N/A; 1729Purpose: this study aimed to investigate the anxiety levels of healthcare workers and the coping strategies they used for stress during the COVID-19 pandemic.
