Abstract

The concluding chapter of the book provides an analytical discussion framed by the three levels of social structures addressed by the book: the systemic, institutional and subjective. We provide a comparison of young people’s educational choices, aspirations and transitions across European countries, making connections across the previous chapters, comparing their results and identifying similarities and differences among them. The chapter addresses, in an integrated and holistic manner, the main questions framing the rationale of the book: How does the structure of different educational systems generate different patterns of educational transitions? How is the socioeconomic and cultural background of young people involved in the processes of educational choices and transitions? How are institutional factors related to these processes and mediated by different national/regional contexts?
