Abstract
Brushless DC (BLDC) motors have applications in the fields such as high-speed drives, artificial heart pumps, vacuum pumps etc. due to higher torque, lower volume and higher efficiency. It is very difficult to obtain satisfactory control performance for BLDC motors using conventional PID controller, because of the difficulty in tunig the PID parameters. In this paper, an intelligent PID controller is designed for controlling the BLDC motor. The intelligent controller is designed based on experience of the control expert and plant characteristics. No modeling information is required for the proposed controller. The proposed controller is designed and analyzed using Matlab/ Simulink for the BLDC motor and the performance of the designed controller is tested in the presence of the system disturbances and uncertain parameters. The performance of the intelligent PID controller is also compared with the conventional PID controller. The designed controller shows robust performance against disturbances and perturbations.
