The adaptation of the revised social problem solving inventory into Turkish (Tr-SPSI-R): a reliability and validity analysis

Abstract

This study aimed at testing the reliability and validity of the Turkish adaptation of the long and the short versions of the Revised Social Problem Solving Inventory (SPSI-R). Data were gathered from 648 university students. Participants fi lled in the SPSI-R, Problem Solving Inventory, Scale for Interpersonal Behavior, Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Hopelessness Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Suicide Probability Scale. A total of 144 students from the total sample refi lled the Tr-SPSI-R for retest one month later. Confi rmatory factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, Pearson product moment correlation coeffi cient and t-test procedures were used to analyze the data. Fit indices from the two confi rmatory factor analyses indicated that the items for the long and the short versions of the Turkish SPSI-R fi tted well to the 5-dimensional model as in the original version. The two versions of the Turkish SPSI-R demonstrated adequate reliability and validity. Internal consistency coeffi cients for the Tr-SPSI-R subscales ranged from 0.62 to 0.92. The test-retest reliability coeffi cients for the subscales of Tr-SPSI-R ranged from 0.60 to 0.84. Tr-SPSI-R possessed good construct and concurrent validities suggesting that the Turkish SPSI-R was a reliable and valid measure to assess social problem solving skills in Turkish samples. / Bu çalışmanın amacı, Gözden Geçirilmiş Sosyal Sorun Çözme Envanterini (Tr-SSÇE-G) Türkçe’ye uyarlayarak, uzun ve kısa formlarının geçerliğini ve güvenilirliğini sınamaktır. Toplam 648 üniversite öğrencisine, Tr- SSÇE-G, Problem Çözme Envanteri, Kişiler Arası Davranış Ölçeği, Beck Depresyon Envanteri, Beck Umutsuzluk Ölçeği, Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği ve İntihar Olasılığı Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Bu öğrencilerden 144’ü, Tr-SSÇE-G’yi test-tekrar test uygulaması kapsamında bir ay sonra tekrar doldurmuştur. Verilerin çözümlemesinde doğrulayıcı faktör analizi, Cronbach alfa, Pearson momentler çarpımı bağıntı katsayısı ve t-testi yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Hem uzun hem de kısa Tr-SSÇE-G’nin, yeterli düzeyde geçerlik ve güvenilirliğe sahip oldukları bulunmuştur. İki doğrulayıcı faktör analizinden elde edilen uyum indeksleri, Tr-SSÇE-G’nin uzun ve kısa formlarındaki maddelerin, özgün formundaki beş boyutlu modele uyum sağladığını göstermiştir. Tr-SSÇE-G’nin alt ölçeklerinin iç tutarlık katsayıları, 0.62 ile 0.92 arasında değişirken test-tekrar test güvenilirlik katsayılarının 0.60 ile 0.84 arasında değiştiği bulunmuştur. Bulgular Tr-SSÇE-G’nin eşzamanlı geçerliğe sahip olduğunu göstermiştir. Sonuç olarak, çalışmanın bulguları Tr-SPÇE-R’nin, Türk örneklemlerde sosyal problem çözme becerisini ölçmede kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçüm aracı olduğunu göstermektedir.
