Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Barakat-Johnson Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis Knowledge Tool (Know-IAD). METHODS: This methodological study was conducted between May 2023 and December 2023. Data were collected from 128 nurses caring for patients with incontinence through the online version of the tool. An expert panel of 6 academics was formed to ensure linguistic validity, and the Turkish version was finalized based on their suggestions. Analyses were performed using the R software’s Multidimensional Item Response Theory (mirt) and Generalized Graded Multidimensional Item Response Theory (ggmirt) packages. Because the fit indices of the 1-factor model were better than the 2- and 3-factor models, the loadings, discrimination, and difficulty parameters were interpreted for this model. RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 32.55 years, and 83.6% were females. Most nurses worked in public hospitals and an internal medicine intensive care unit. The stratified α coefficient for the tool was 0.62. Test-retest stability ranged from 0.92 to 0.94. Ten of the 18 items of the tool have negative item difficulty coefficients. Items 1 and 18 were answered correctly by nearly all participants, whereas Items 2, 7, and 17 were the most difficult. CONCLUSIONS: The findings indicate that further refinement is necessary to adapt the Turkish version of the Know-IAD for utilization within the Turkish community.
