Publication Open Access Observation of two-photon interference using the zero-phonon-line emission of a single molecule(Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing, 2006) Ehrl, M.; Hellerer, Th.; Brauchle, C.; Zumbusch, A.; Department of Physics; Müstecaplıoğlu, Özgür Esat; Kiraz, Alper; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; Department of Physics; College of Sciences; 1674; 22542We report the results of coincidence counting experiments at the output of a Michelson interferometer using the zero-phonon-line emission of a single molecule at 1.4 K. Under continuous wave excitation, we observe the absence of coincidence counts as an indication of two-photon interference. This corresponds to the observation of Hong-Ou-Mandel correlations.Publication Open Access Quantum state transfer among crystallographic groups of N-V centers in diamond(Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), 2011) Department of Physics; Müstecaplıoğlu, Özgür Esat; Faculty Member; Department of Physics; College of Sciences; 1674We investigate collections of Nitrogen-Vacancy (N-V) Centers in diamond crystals coupled to a circuit QED system of a coplanar waveguide (CPWG) resonator. Our analysis reveals that different symmetry axes oriented N-V centers in the diamond host can be grouped into bosonic modes of collective quasi-spin wave excitations so that the hybrid system can be described as an analog of an exciton-polariton type cavity QED model. We examine such model for quantum state transfer among distinct crystallographic groups of N-V centers in a single diamond as well as two spatially distant diamonds. Rabi oscillations, mode entanglement, possible use of N-V classes as spin ensemble qubits and an implementation of continuous-time quantum random walk are discussed.Publication Open Access Dynamic characterization and damping control of a MEMS structure - art. no. 671509(Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), 2007) Department of Mechanical Engineering; Alaca, Ilgım Veryeri; Başdoğan, İpek; Faculty Member; Department of Mechanical Engineering; College of Engineering; 50569; 179940Publication Open Access Wavelength selection in measuring red blood cell aggregation based on light transmittance(Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), 2011) Uyuklu, Mehmet; Canpolat, Murat; Meiselman, Herbert J.; N/A; Başkurt, Oğuz Kerim; Faculty Member; School of Medicine; 2389The reversible aggregation of red blood cells (RBC) is of current basic science and clinical interest. Using a flow channel and light transmittance (LT) through RBC suspensions, we have examined the effects of wavelength (500 to 900 nm) on the static and dynamic aspects of RBC aggregation for normal blood and suspensions with reduced or enhanced aggregation; the effects of oxygenation were also explored. Salient observations include: 1. significant effects of wavelength on aggregation parameters reflecting the extent of aggregation (i.e., number of RBC per aggregate); 2. no significant effects of wavelength on parameters reflecting the time course of RBC aggregation; 3. a prominent influence of hemoglobin oxygen saturation on both extent and time-course related aggregation parameters measured at wavelengths less than 700 nm, but only on the time-course at 800 nm; and 4. the power of parameters in detecting a given alteration of RBC aggregation is affected by wavelength, in general being greater at higher wavelengths. It is recommended that light sources with wavelengths around 800 nm be used in instruments for measuring RBC aggregation via LT.Publication Open Access HIPPIE: a new platform for ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy at the MAX IV Laboratory(International Union of Crystallography (IUCr), 2021) Zhu, Suyun; Scardamaglia, Mattia; Kundsen, Jan; Sankari, Rami; Tarawneh, Hamed; Temperton, Robert; Pickworth, Louisa; Cavalca, Filippo; Wang, Chunlei; Tissot, Heloise; Weissenrieder, Jonas; Hagman, Benjamin; Gustafson, Johan; Lindgren, Fredrik; Kallquist, Ida; Maibach, Julia; Hahlin, Maria; Boix, Virginia; Gallo, Tamires; Rehman, Foqia; D'Acunto, Giulio; Schnadt, Joachim; Shavorskiy, Andrey; Department of Chemistry; Kaya, Sarp; Faculty Member; Department of Chemistry; College of Sciences; 116541HIPPIE is a soft X-ray beamline on the 3 GeV electron storage ring of the MAX IV Laboratory, equipped with a novel ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) instrument. The endstation is dedicated to performing in situ and operando X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy experiments in the presence of a controlled gaseous atmosphere at pressures up to 30 mbar [1 mbar = 100 Pa] as well as under ultra-high-vacuum conditions. The photon energy range is 250 to 2200 eV in planar polarization and with photon fluxes >10(12) photons s(-1) (500 mA ring current) at a resolving power of greater than 10000 and up to a maximum of 32000. The endstation currently provides two sample environments: a catalysis cell and an electrochemical/liquid cell. The former allows APXPS measurements of solid samples in the presence of a gaseous atmosphere (with a mixture of up to eight gases and a vapour of a liquid) and simultaneous analysis of the inlet/outlet gas composition by online mass spectrometry. The latter is a more versatile setup primarily designed for APXPS at the solid-liquid (dip-and-pull setup) or liquid-gas (liquid microjet) interfaces under full electrochemical control, and it can also be used as an open port for ad hoc-designed non-standard APXPS experiments with different sample environments. The catalysis cell can be further equipped with an IR reflection-absorption spectrometer, allowing for simultaneous APXPS and IR spectroscopy of the samples. The endstation is set up to easily accommodate further sample environments.Publication Open Access On the SU(3) parametrization of qutrits(Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing, 2006) Department of Physics; Bölükbaşı, Ahmet Tuna; Dereli, Tekin; Faculty Member; Department of Physics; College of Sciences; Graduate School of Sciences and Engineering; N/A; 201358Parametrization of qutrits on the complex projective plane CP2 = SU(3)/U(2) is given explicitly. A set of constraints that characterize mixed state density matrices is found.Publication Open Access Rotational-state-changing collisions between N-2(+) and Rb at low energies(American Physical Society (APS), 2020) Doerfler, A. D.; Villarreal, P.; Gonzalez-Lezana, T.; Gianturco, F. A.; Willitsch, S.; Department of Chemistry; Yurtsever, İsmail Ersin; Faculty Member; Department of Chemistry; College of Sciences; 7129We present a theoretical study of rotationally elastic and inelastic collisions between molecular nitrogen ions and Rb atoms in the sub-Kelvin temperature regime prevalent in ion-atom hybrid trapping experiments. The cross sections for rotational excitation and de-excitation collisions were calculated using quantum-scattering methods on ab initio potential energy surfaces for the energetically lowest singlet electronic channel of the system. We find that the rotationally inelastic collision rates are at least an order of magnitude smaller than the charge-exchange rates found in this system, rendering inelastic processes a minor channel under the conditions of typical hybrid trapping experiments.Publication Open Access Optical scanners for high resolution RSD systems(Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), 2002) DeWitt, F.; Luanava, S.; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Ürey, Hakan; Faculty Member; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; College of Engineering; 8579This paper outlines the design trade-offs and measured results of scanner architectures for use in high resolution Retinal Scanning Displays: Mechanical resonant for horizontal scanning, and MEMS-based pinch correction and vertical linear scanners. Analysis steps and techniques used to model and minimize dynamic deformations are covered. This paper also discusses two types of scanners and associated mirror flatness issues. Dynamic flatness modeling and performance results are presented, followed by thermally induced deformations and possible athermalize solutions for MEMS-type scanning mirrors. Theory, FEA dynamic and thermal analysis, experimental results, and methods to reduce mirror deformation are discussed.Publication Open Access Erratum: Electromagnetically induced left-handedness in a dense gas of three-level atoms(American Physical Society (APS), 2005) Oktel, M. E.; Department of Physics; Müstecaplıoğlu, Özgür Esat; Faculty Member; Department of Physics; College of Sciences; 1674Publication Open Access Dynamics of quantum phases in a spinor condensate(American Physical Society (APS), 2003) Yi, S.; You, L.; Department of Physics; Müstecaplıoğlu, Özgür Esat; Faculty Member; Department of Physics; College of Sciences; 1674We discuss the quantum phases and their diffusion dynamics in a spinor-1 atomic Bose-Einstein condensate. For ferromagnetic interactions, we obtain the exact ground-state distribution of the phases associated with the total atom number (N), the total magnetization (M), and the alignment (or hypercharge) (Y) of the system. The mean-field ground state is stable against fluctuations of atom numbers in each of the spin components, and the phases associated with the order parameter for each spin components diffuse while dynamically recovering the two broken continuous symmetries [U(1) and SO(2)] when N and M are conserved, as in current experiments. We discuss the implications to the quantum dynamics due to an external (homogeneous) magnetic field. We also comment on the case of a spinor-1 condensate with antiferromagnetic interactions.
