Publication Metadata only Reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the caregiver reaction assessment scale(Taylor & Francis, 2017) Küçükgüçlü, Özlem; Ugur, Özlem; Söylemez, Burcu Akpinar; N/A; N/A; N/A; Bahar, Zühal; Elçigil, Ayfer; Beşer, Ayşe; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; School of Nursing; School of Nursing; School of Nursing; 3918; N/A; 143490The scales need to be adapted for the society so that they can be used. This study aims to assess the reliability and validity of the Caregiver Reaction Assessment Scale. The phases of the testing of the scale included the translation and adaptation of the Preparedness for Caregiving Scale construct analysis by an expert group, and pre-test and psychometric evaluation (factor analysis, reliability coefficient and inter-item correlations). Pearson Correlation analysis of the results showed a significant positive relationship between test-retest scores of the scale (r= .775, p= .000; t=781, p= .439). Cronbach alpha coefficient was α=.88 and standardized α value was .89. The scale explains the fifty-six percent of total variance. The scales were found to be reliable and valid in Turkish population. These findings suggest that the Turkish version of the instrument is available for measuring specific aspects of the caregiving experience in the Turkish population.Publication Metadata only Using peer tutoring program in the basic skills laboratory and clinical practice: experience of nursing students(Koç University School of Nursing, 2022) N/A; Şengül, Tuba; Aydın, Ayfer; Ocakçı, Ayşe Ferda; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; Faculty Member; School of Nursing; School of Nursing; School of Nursing; 59230; 174932; 1729Background: The peer tutoring program in the clinical and basic skill laboratory enhances the student’s satisfaction by reducing their individual anxieties. Methods: In the study, descriptive phenomenological approach was used. Six third-year students were selected as tutors, and in-depth focus group interviews were conducted with 22 second-year students who participated in the peer tutoring program. The study was carried out in the skills laboratory in June 2016, within the scope of the “Nursing Fundamentals” course, in the context of basic skills and nursing care plan preparation in clinical applications. Content analysis revealed categories, themes, and sub-themes. Results: Results of the study were presented in the following 4 themes and sub-themes: (1) “comfortable learning environment” (one of us, convenient communication), (2) “increasing social interaction” (accessible, friendly approach), (3) “increase in self-confidence” (feeling accomplished), and (4) “effects in clinical practice” (clinical environment, lack of knowledge). Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that the use of the peer tutoring program increased the students’ self-confidence and social interaction to work in a comfortable learning environment without experiencing any judgment and stress, and it also facilitated learning.Publication Metadata only Factors influencing the school experience of children with epilepsy(Kare Publ, 2020) N/A; N/A; Özkan, Sevgi; Aydın, Ayfer; Master Student; Faculty Member; Graduate School of Health Sciences; School of Nursing; N/A; 174932Objectives:To examine the effects of some characteristics of the epileptic child on school experience, a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted. Methods: The data were collected from 110 children with epilepsy between the ages of 10-18 and followed-up by an education and research hospital's neurology clinic in Istanbul. The "Form of the Factors Affecting the School Experience of Children" and the "Parent Form" containing the socio-demographic characteristics of children with epilepsy and their parents were used in the collection of the data. Results: In our study, we found out that 12.7% of the children were dropout; 56.4% were moderately successful and 14.5% were not good at their lessons; 47.2% were absent from school for 15 days or more, and 4.5% repeated a grade level. It was revealed that children with epilepsy have problems with school, friends, and teachers. Conclusion: Duration of disease and seizure frequency was found to be factors affecting the school experience of the child. The child, family, and teachers were recommended training suitable for the school experience of children with epilepsy.Publication Metadata only Factors affecting knowledge levels of oncology nurses about skin cancer and sun protection(Wiley, 2020) Akdeniz Kudubes, Asli; Ugur, Ozlem; Bektas, Murat; Aydın, Ayfer; Faculty Member; School of Nursing; 174932Objective This is a descriptive, cross-sectional and observational study that determines the factors affecting the knowledge levels of oncology nurses for skin cancer and sun protection. Materials & Methods This study was performed on the members of the Turkish Oncology Nursing Association and oncology nurses working in hospitals in Turkey between November 2019 and March 2020. Data were collected by using the Nurse Information Form and Skin Cancer and Sun Knowledge (SCSK) scale. For data analysis, average and percentage calculations and multiple linear regression analyses were used. The significance level was set atp We found those female nurses who were above 40 years of age and having darker skin tone due to excessive sun exposure, with a family history of skin cancer, and educated on skin cancer, performed better on the SCSK scale. We found a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of skin cancer and sun exposure. Using multiple regression analysis, a model was created based on the relationship between variables. In this model, the personality traits of oncology nurses are responsible for higher (91.1%) knowledge levels on skin cancer and sun exposure. Conclusion In conclusion, it is important to consider factors that will influence an individual's behaviour while developing skin cancer and sun protection programmes.Publication Metadata only Health of adolescents in the COVID-19 outbreak: perspectives from mothers(İstanbul Üniversitesi Yayınevi, 2021) Umaç, Eyşan Hanzade; Aydın, Ayfer; PhD Student; Faculty Member; Graduate School of Health Sciences; School of Nursing; N/A; 174932Objective: During the COVID-19 outbreak, some nationwide measures were taken to slow down and stop the spread of the virus. This study was conducted to determine how health behaviors of adolescents were affected by the outbreak process and what kind of needs the outbreak process caused in mothers. Material and Method: The data were collected using the Qualtrics online data collection tool between 8-31 May 2020. The “Mother-Child Information Form,” including questions on the characteristics of mothers and adolescents, and the “Questionnaire for Determining Adolescents’ Behaviors for Protecting and Sustaining the Health and the Needs of Mothers” were used to collect the research data. Results: The average age of the mothers participating in the study is between 42.6±6.7. 65.8% of adolescents’ ages are between 14 and 18. The mothers indicated that while 36.6% of adolescents increased their consumption of junk food, 35.6% of them increased their food consumption, 70.2% of them were less physically active, and 76.4% of them slept late during the COVID-19 outbreak. 69.6% of the mothers have information needs regarding how to protect and maintain their child’s health during the outbreak. Conclusions: As a result of the study, based on the statements of mothers, it was determined that adolescents’ health behaviors were negatively affected by the outbreak and that the outbreak caused mothers to have a need for information on protecting and sustaining the health of their adolescent children. / Amaç: COVID-19 salgını sürecinde ülkelerde salgına yönelik alınan önlemlerin ergenlerin sağlık davranışlarını nasıl etkilediği ve annelerinin gereksinimleri hakkında çok az şey bilinmektedir.
