Abstract

The twentieth century has witnessed the rise of the power of multinational corporations (MNCs), which increasingly share the authority for governance with nation states and even undermine their sovereignty. Comparably, the market liberalization and economic globalization process has created intense competition between states to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). This chapter reviews state and MNC relations with special reference to existing literature on bargaining and sovereignty concepts.
