Abstract

This article analyses the jurisdiction and arbitration chapters of the The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Carriage of Goods Wholly or Partly by Sea (Rotterdam Rules). The chapters on jurisdiction and arbitration are based on a generally accepted compromise to encourage international harmonization. Chapters 14 and 15 refer only to those states that, according to Art. 91, agree to be bound by these regulations. This article examines the chapters on jurisdiction and arbitration and presents the principles outlined in these chapters.
