Abstract
There is a scarcity of scientific investigations on suicidal behavior in Muslim-majority countries. This is especially troubling given that most Muslim nations are low-to middle-income nations, accounting for the majority of suicide deaths worldwide. This chapter reports on suicidal thoughts and behavior in Türkiye. To this end, we first briefly address Türkiye’s geographical, social, and cultural characteristics. Later, we discuss the legal status of suicide, the prevalence of suicidal behavior, attitudes towards suicide and suicidal people, and the relationship between suicide and religion in Türkiye. Lastly, we examine the profile of mental health services in Türkiye.
